Gold Souks of Dubai

Yes, I have never seen so much gold in my life (275 tons) and neither have I seen such expensively priced gold in my life.  This gold is not of the 10-14 carat type.  It all is a minimum of 18 carat up to 24 carat and you can even buy grams of gold in bars.  I am not use to this color of gold so if you like a really yellow gold or brassy gold color then you will like the gold here.  I like a softer hue of gold so the 10-14 works for me.  I had hopes of buying some gold hoops and a necklace here in Dubai but to tell you the truth the prices are not cheap at all.  In fact the prices are down right disappointing.  Even if I were to buy a pair of 18 carat gold hoops in Canada or the USA I would pay about half of what they are asking in Dubai.  I think that stupid or naive people could get caught up in the notion that gold is a great price in Dubai and buy buy buy but it is extremely overpriced.  So I left the gold souk with nothing but disappointment.  But it did make me smile because when I hit the States and go shopping in California, I know that I can pop into a TJ Maxx and buy a pair of 14 carat gold hoops on sale in the jewellery department for under 100 dollars and at the souk they were asking a minimum of over 200 dollars and I went into several stores to price them out.  I did barter the price down to 169 but I felt that was too high.  The Gold Souks of Dubai are interesting to walk around in to see all of the overpriced bling from gold belts to gold head pieces you name it, it is there.  But beware of the prices they are not good and they are not cheap.
