Scotland

There are numerous castles in any direction from the city centre and you could spend months visiting them all.  You can buy a 3 day 44 pound family pass and see as many as you can. We took a drive north up the coastal tourist route and the views of Edinburgh over the ocean are stunning.  The little hamlets along the way are quaint and interesting to look at.  The sheep that we stopped to talk to literally ran from us so maybe they didn't like our accents?

The hotel that we stayed at was the Novotel City Centre which claims to be a 4 star hotel, well I have news for them, it's not.  The bed and I like hard beds is worse than you would receive at summer camp and our room is so compact and tiny that you would think that you are on a cruise ship.  It is a new hotel so it is cute and modern but a bad bed will always get you a low rating in my books.  My 6 year old even commented that it was as hard as a brick.  Its location was superb though due to being two blocks from the base of the castle and it was in Old Town which is extremely scenic.  Well other than the bed I am sorry to leave Edinburgh because the people are friendly and the scones and clotted cream are pretty good too.  I will be back some day to check out more castles and spend more time in New Town inside of Edinburgh and this area of the city dates back to the 1700's which is not very new in Canadian terms.
