The Big Surprise

We flew with Virgin out to Brisbane and had to overnight.  Everything is super expensive in Australia and hotel rooms are especially.  I had been watching prices for months and they only went higher.  I had to pay 190 Aussie dollars for a basic Travelodge, this almost killed me.  We then got up and flew with V Australia the newer airline from Sir Richard Branson.  It rocked.  I watched 5 newly released movies on the 12 hour flight.  We picked up our rental car in LAX and drove to Palm Desert.  Dax slept the whole way which was 2 ½ hours.  We checked into the Marriott Shadow Ridge which is a beautiful timeshare property.  We all had a afternoon sleep to try and recover from the jet lag and time difference.  It did not help much because Dax and I both woke up at 3 am and were wide awake so we read for a couple of hours to get tired.  Dax woke up at noon the next day so he did well and I woke up at 10 am.

I knew that Darren’s parents were coming around 2 pm, so I quickly got ready to go and work out so that I would be back in time showered etc.  I did not quite make it.  They forgot about the time change, driving from Arizona and they actually got in at 1 pm.  Dax had no idea that they were coming; it was a huge surprise for him when he opened the door.  We wanted it to be a surprise for him and it was.  We had not seen Mel and Mary since my Dad’s funeral in early November so it was really nice to see them.  They are staying with us for the week here in Palm Desert, California.
