Hotel Saint George – Iguazu Falls, Argentina

I think this my first one star property that I have ever stayed at on this entire tour and hopefully the last.  Hotel Saint George considers themselves anywhere from a 3 to a 5 star, but they are delusional
This little hotel is in the heart of Puerta Iguazu.   I booked through and it was way overpriced for what you got for $115.00 per night.  It is directly across the street from the bus station which can whisk you away to the falls for 7 pesos.  Along the street are many restaurants within easy walking distance and a little convenience store to buy water and wine.  The location is good.  The hotel supplies a complimentary buffet breakfast which is filling.  When we checked in the hotel guy tried to give us a double room but then I told him that we booked a triple room.  My sisters had the same experience so I think it is almost policy to try and screw the tourist who is paying for a triple room but they are given a double.  Once we got the rooms straightened around it was fine.  We ended up having a pool view on the second floor which was very quiet.  My sisters were over the band from down the street and it was very noisy.
Once we got to the room it was fine if you are ok with a one star room, I am not.  So I grinned and bared it.  We had a balcony and 3 beds and actually the beds were fairly comfortable.  It had an old worn carpet and in hot humid climates I don’t get this, just put tile in for goodness sake.  The closet looked close to circa 1910 or earlier and the safe was locked tight.  We called 4 times to get the safe opened but to no avail the staff were not organized enough to come and open the safe up so we just carried our valuables around instead.  The bathroom made me reminisce about camping because it resembled a camp washroom with the same flooring in the shower etc.  There was no tub which bothered me.  When you sat down on the toilet you had to close the door just to fit in.  I did not like to close the door because there was a huge spider web behind the door and it was not my job to clean it, I was on holidays.  The ac worked well though.  We only had to stay there for two nights and my sister booked this one so I was not going to complain too much.  The pool was a disgrace and needed to be cleaned a century or two ago but it was so hot we went in it anyway.  There was reportedly a workout room but when we went to check it out there was no ac in the room and it was stifling hot and there were two tread mills but one was out of order and the other one went approximately less than one mile an hour, so I could not run.  The other equipment needed to be removed about 30 years ago.  It did not even look safe.
Check out was the earliest I have ever encountered with a hotel room it was 10 am, which was stupid early.  They did however hold our bags for us in storage so we could catch our 2 pm flight.  We got them to order taxis for us but they forgot so in the end we had to find our own or miss our flight.  They seemed to be bickering with each other over who was in charge and ended up screwing up with us.  I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless there is a change in management and the whole entire building is renovated up to standard.  It is a very tired one star hotel but because we were with family we still had fun.
